      One stands a better chance of becoming a millionaire being an arithmetician as opposed to a mathematician. You may not want to live in a mobile home, but owning a mobile home park is a great investment. Ideals can work against you. Mathematics, certainly, is about ideals.
      One may come to realize, by way of digital age, discrete mathematics (whole numbers only, like 0s and 1s), that close is good enough. In contrast to experts-in-their-field people, I am an adept generalist in wide ranging, polar disciplines within technology and the arts. Consider this a possible malady reflected in the cutting quip, "Jack of all trades, master of none." The same quipster said, "It takes an apprentice five years to master a trade." But that was before the digital age. The time investment is less if you'd get rid of your TV. Instead, most people are looking for their next bigger screen.
      On the tech side, I started out as a machine designer just as PCs were introduced along with CAD. I helped design two manufacturing machines for the automotive industry. I moved on to military and aerospace technical writing and illustration. I involved myself in fissionable materials and weapons maintenance. I climbed a steep learning curve as an electronics technician, a consequence of signing on with Sandia National Lab (writing about a life mistake here) just prior to completing a graduate degree. I later became a member of the technical staff, Sandia's term for scientist. As the manager of the test department at Bigelow Aerospace, I compiled test results unfavorable to safe space travel given the company's designs.
      I have a grasp of basic physics, chemistry, materials science, statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and thermodynamics. Love 'em all. I've noticed that math is where the less practical, intellectual titans go. I went, but learned I'm no titan. I did, however, work hard. No shame there.
      On the arts side, I have worked for myself as a commercial artist and craftsman. I have painted over 100 murals, mostly for caring parents with young children. I have been commissioned to do many paintings and have illustrated two books, one for a best selling author. I am a member of the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians. I weld in five different processes. I am an adept tradesman, capable of handling most tasks on residential and commercial remodeling projects.

Social Interests
• I am a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Admittedly, the name and the rituals are a little corny, but the Elks Club is a truly kind, philanthropic organization. • I have taught half a dozen different courses in colleges and trade schools. • I'm into the great outdoors in a big way. • What really grabbed my hobby level interest for a couple of decades was social dancing, from the Lindy Hop to Waltz and Foxtrot. I had a lot of lessons in that time. Dancing ain't easy. Am I good at it? Well, I have never been so outside my comfort zone, and so damned happy that I can actually dance a little. Through experience I can offer this advice: Even if you rise only to the intermediate level, as I wish to think I have, dance partners will be appreciative.

Skills?  Loads.     How? Curiosity, commitment, desperation.
      Engineering analysis. Fabrication technologies in welding & composites. Engineering management. Product Design. Circuit analysis. C++, C, Java and Script, Visual Basic, HTML and CSS, Unix scripting, MS Office Suite, NetBeans, Visual Studio. Adobe Creative Suite. SolidWorks. Teaching & curriculum development. Building trades. Trench digging, hay raking, and manure spreading, but, yes, I got more skills than I dare list here.
      I wish I could include "parenting" in my skill set, but nope,...I have little doubt that the mother of my children still wants to kick my ass. Yet, I have three sons, young men who are doing great.
